Editor’s Note

COVID-19 has dictated how we live our lives for much of the last year — whether this is how we interact, shop, work, study, dress, and the list goes on. In the first few months it felt like, as a global society, we were just trying to wrap our heads around what was happening. We were isolating inside and wondering how long this could go on. Nine months later, we’ve settled in.

While coming up with a common theme for our reporting, we realized it would be impossible to talk about anything current without having the story be somehow influenced by an aspect of the pandemic. Still, like everyone else, we were tired of the same stories telling us of the toll COVID-19 is taking on our communities. Instead, we’ve tried to highlight another angle — COVID-19 has become a part of our lives and we’ve found ways to exist within it. With Reimagined Communities, we aim to show resilience and new perspectives.

COVID-19 has impacted all phases of life throughout 2020. It took incredible drive, creativity, and ingenuity from all of the communities in the world to progress forward with everyday activities. Our goal is to highlight these communities and show how they have reimagined everyday life in the era of COVID.
